Rowing the Atlantic Ocean Solo: 10 Weird Things That Happen
It has now been a year since I stepped on land after completing my solo row across the Atlantic ocean. It was a journey that took me over 3000 miles from La Gomera to Antigua over the course of 59 days, 16 hours and 36 minutes. It was brutal but absolutely brilliant. Here are 10 weird and wonderful things that happened on my journey.
The Power of Adventure
As a team deeply rooted in the spirit of adventure, we have experienced firsthand the profound benefits that come from pushing our limits, embracing uncertainty, and immersing ourselves in the beauty of the natural world. Therefore, we are delighted to share that we will be raising money for The Outward Bound Trust, through our journey to row across the Pacific Ocean.
Ocean Reflections
A full year has passed since the exhilarating moment when my crew and I crossed the finish line of the World's Toughest Row in 2022, completing the daunting 42-day journey across the Atlantic. The memory of our arrival in English Harbour, Antigua on January 23, 2023, is still as vivid and gratifying as if it unfolded just yesterday. Reflecting on this remarkable achievement, the overwhelming pride from conquering what stands as the most significant challenge in my life persists in my memories.
Meet the team - Miriam
Back in 2019, after a freezing rowing session on the Clyde in Glasgow, I jokingly said, 'Anyone want to row an ocean with me?' Little did I know that this offhand remark would spark my interest in ocean rowing.
Meet the Team - Jess
I’m so excited to now be a part of team Seas the Day alongside Mims and Lottie who provide nothing but the best company with their positive attitude and relentless drive to live each day to its fullest. The Pacific Ocean will be tough, but our team spirit will carry us through its challenges.
Miriam rows 22 hours non-stop and sets new race record!
Miriam finishes the 3,000 miles solo row unassisted across the Atlantic Ocean to set a new race record: Fastest Female Solo. Miriam took 59 days 16 hours 36 minutes to complete the biggest adventure of her life. She had rowed for 22 hours non-stop to get to the finish line.
Miriam has less than 500NM to go!!!
Again, at the time of writing this Miriam has passed another milestone! 🙌 She has now rowed three quarters of the way to Antigua. This we know will be a much needed boost for Miriam. The end is coming into sight now…👀 🏝️
Spending New Year with barnacles, flying fish, whales…oh and a shark!
I’m writing this, we got the news yesterday that Miriam has passed the half way mark! What an achievement for a solo rower. This I’m sure will be a big boost to her morale. Miriam is continuing to make good progress albeit a bit slower the last few days. This has been due to choppy seas and the weather conditions but things look to be improving over the weekend and into next week.
Miriam‘s Christmas Day on the Atlantic
We did miss Miriam but spoke to her twice on Christmas which was lovely. She said she was very much missing a roast turkey dinner. Fortunately, as we have our own turkeys’ provisions have been made to enjoy another Christmas dinner when she comes home. Miriam mentioned she has been craving for hot buttered toast and roast potatoes.
Miriam starts the race and gets featured on BBC Breakfast!
Well, what a week it’s been! We arrived back in England to sub zero temperatures. After 5 days in La Gomera it was a shock to the system.
After 3 years of planning my husband Christopher and I were finally in La Gomera to wave Miriam off on the biggest adventure of her life.
