8,000 Nautical Miles Rowed, over 160 days at sea; last stretch!
After 160 days and more than 8,000 nautical miles of hard rowing, Jess and Mims are threading their way toward the finish line. Life onboard is a steady grind: salt sores, capricious weather, gear failures, and the ever-present freeze-dried meals. But in their latest update, they share raw reflections, close calls, and renewed determination as they count down the final miles to reaching Australia.
7,000 Nautical Miles Rowed, over 140 days at sea, and we have left the Pacific!
After 140 days at sea and more than 7,000 nautical miles rowed, Jess and Mims are edging closer to their finish line. Life onboard is a mix of squalls, salt sores, power failures and freeze-dried meals. In the midst of the row–sleep–eat–repeat routine came an unexpected gift from Mother Nature: a 40 kg tuna. A huge morale boost they ate sashimi and ceviche for two days, leaving them full, revived and ready for the final stretch.
Over 6,000 Nautical Miles Rowed, and over 120 days at sea!
After 120 days at sea and over 6,000 nautical miles behind them, the Seas the Day team are finally seeing fierce winds and massive swells forecasted…everything has changed. From serenity to squalls, from tranquil sunsets to saturated nights, their spirits remain high despite salt sores, buckets and dreams what food they would eat when back on dry land.
5,000 Nautical Miles Rowed, a Birthday and 100 days at sea!
5,000 miles rowed, 100 days at sea, and a birthday bash like no other. Jess and Mims have marked each milestone with grit, giggles, and the odd teary moment, proving that life on the Pacific is as much about friendship and resilience as it is about rowing.
Still Got It: Halfway Across the Pacific With Smiles, Salt Sores & Surprises
Halfway across the Pacific and still full of grit, giggles, and a fair few battle scars. Jess and Mims have rowed through storms, fixed their water-maker on the fly, and kept pace with dolphins while clocking up mile after mile. From hitting the halfway marker to sharing laughs in the cabin, this latest update captures the drama, the joy, and the sheer determination powering Seas The Day across 4,500 miles of ocean.
Pacific Row Diaries: Monster Waves, Moonlight & Milestones
Rowing across the Pacific and still grinning from ear to salt-sprayed ear. Since relaunching from Peru, Jess and Mims have battled monster waves, a swollen rowing hand, power hiccups, and the occasional airborne spoonful of freeze-dried curry and all with unwavering smiles. In this latest update, we follow their highs, lows, and viral wins from the middle of the ocean. From moonlit rowing shifts to 3.6 million TikTok views, here’s what life looks like at the 4,000-mile mark of their epic Pacific row with Seas The Day!
Back on the Pacific After Rudder Repairs
Repairs complete and spirits high, Jess and Mims are back on the Pacific - rowing through colder weather, cloudy skies, and battery hiccups that meant hand-steering through the night. Wildlife visits, podcast Spanish lessons, and a serious snack stash keep them going as they push toward the 1,500-mile mark.
Seas The Day's Pacific Ocean Adventure Begins
Jess and Miriam set off on their boldest challenge yet, an 8,000-mile Pacific row. Six days in, the ocean had other plans. Undeterred by setbacks and rudder repairs, they’re took the tough decision to turn back for repair and relaunch. Their courage, humour, and unshakeable resolve continue to inspire! Watch this space…

From Weathered to Wonderful
So … where do we start?
When we bought our boat, Velocity back in March, she’d spent rather a long time sitting outside in the weather, uncovered and exposed to the elements. We knew there'd be a fair bit of work to do, but we weren't prepared for what was to come.
Behind the Scenes: Packing, Prepping, and Pancakes
The team spent last weekend at Miriam’s house in Yorkshire making and vacuum packing food. Jess and Lottie drove up late on Friday night after work in Jess’ trusty van, ‘Gethin’, arriving around midnight with all of Velocity’s loose equipment and some very tasty snacks kindly provided by Love Corn and New Forest Fruits.

A Commitment to Adventure and Sustainability
Our ocean rowing journey offers us a unique opportunity to connect closely with the ocean and the natural world. At the same time, we’re deeply aware of the harm human activities can cause to these fragile ecosystems. That’s why, from the very start of this mission, we’ve been committed to minimizing our environmental impact as much as we can. That’s why we’re partnering with like-minded, eco-conscious brands that are committed to making a real difference.
Ocean rowing through the Years
I have the privilege to have been asked to write a blog for the Seas the Day crew of ladies who are soon to embark on an extraordinary challenge and adventure and very happy to write about my experiences in rowing an ocean – and highlight any differences between then and now.

A 40+ hour row: thunder and lightning storms, Alan the seal and Navionics art…
What a weekend it was aboard the good ship Velocity, during the May bank holiday! With thunder and lightning storms, Alan the seal, thick fog and attempts at Navionics art, we had quite the adventure packed into over 40 hours of rowing.
